Terms of Use
Last updated November 5, 2026
Show Your Hand is a free card sort for students, families, and the counselors who work with them. These terms explain what you can do with the tool, the card deck, and the site.
Using the tool
Anyone can use Show Your Hand for free, with no account. That includes students, parents and guardians, school counselors, and independent counselors, whether or not they charge for their services. Counselors can make as many links as they like, for as many students as they like.
The card deck
The standard deck (the card titles, the descriptions students read, and the questions for counselors) is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Under that license, you can copy the deck, share it, print it, and adapt it, as long as you give credit and don't use it for commercial purposes.
When you share or print the deck, include a credit like this one:
Show Your Hand card deck by Mark Moody, MSquared College Counseling (msquaredcounseling.com). Licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0.
If you change the cards, say that you changed them.
An additional permission for counselors. Counselors, teachers, and advisors may use the deck with their own students and clients, including printed and adapted versions, whether or not they charge for their services. This permission covers using the deck in your work with students. It does not cover selling the deck, or any product built on it, to anyone.
Cards that a counselor adds to a custom deck belong to that counselor.
The site
The website itself, including its code, design, and the Show Your Hand logo, is © 2026 Mark Moody, MSquared College Counseling, with all rights reserved. Please link to Show Your Hand rather than copying the site or hosting your own version of it. Don't use the Show Your Hand name or logo in a way that suggests Mark Moody or MSquared College Counseling endorses you, your practice, or your product.
Results and privacy
This site doesn't store anyone's answers. Results live on the student's own device and inside the links people choose to send. The Privacy page explains how that works.
A counselor who connects a Google Sheet receives a copy of each finished sort in that Sheet. That counselor is responsible for the data collected there, including keeping it secure and following any privacy obligations that apply to their school or practice.
No guarantees
Show Your Hand is provided as is. It's a tool for reflection and conversation, and it isn't professional advice for any individual student. It doesn't predict or guarantee admission to any college. The research tips point to sources that can change, so confirm details with each college directly. To the extent the law allows, Mark Moody and MSquared College Counseling aren't liable for decisions made using the tool or for any loss that comes from using it.
Changes
These terms may change as the tool changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated.
